The Zuccardi family built something in Paraje Altamira, in the Uco Valley, that has become one of the symbols of modern Argentine wine: a concrete building sunk into stony ground, with the Andes directly in front of it. The material is the point — the whole estate is an argument about stone, soil and altitude rather than about oak.
It turns up near the top of international “best wineries in the world” rankings, repeatedly and not by accident.
The price matches. 83,000 ARS as of the July 2026 list is the highest figure in my entire roundup, in the same territory as what you would pay in Napa. What you get for it is the best case the Uco Valley can make for itself, so if you are only doing one expensive winery on the trip, I would make it this one.
What kind of visit this is
A flagship experience, not a quick cellar walk: architecture, a serious tasting of high-altitude wines, and views straight onto the mountains. It is unhurried by design, and rushing it defeats the purpose.
Give it a whole day. It is about an hour and a half from Mendoza city in each direction, and the Uco Valley is not a place you dip into for forty minutes. Do not stack three other stops around it. My Uco Valley guide sets out how to plan the drive and what else is worth pairing with it.
Do you need to book?
Yes, and far in advance. This is the one place on my list where booking late will simply mean not going. Reserve directly with the winery, well ahead of your trip, and confirm at the time whether food is included or whether the restaurant is a separate reservation, because at this price level that distinction changes the day.
Coming from cheaper tastings earlier in the week is the right order, not the wrong one — the contrast is most of the value.
